Israel is a PhD. student in the Department of Classics at Stanford on Language and Literature track. He received his BA in Classics and MA in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies from the University of New Mexico. His main research interests are in Archaic poetry, especially the Archaic tradition of competitive performance and its effect on the production of poetry. He is currently beginning his dissertation research under the direction of Richard P. Martin on the construction of intimacy within the Iliad and Odyssey. He also enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the natural areas around campus, and, thanks to this course, collecting garage-rock vinyl and going to shows in San Francisco.
